II:6 Cable extrusion

High-tension cables are manufactured in an extrusion process where molten polymer is layered onto a metal conductor. The flow field in the process is complex and full scale experiments on a production line impossible. In addition, the non-Newtonian behaviour of the polymer affects both the flow field and the quality of the manufactured cable. Finite-element computations are used in order to improve an understanding of the physics of the process, with a view eventually to improving cable quality.
