IAN COHEN'S WEBSITE!

Iam senior lecturer (associate professor) at the Department of Mechanics, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.
My main duties involve the teaching of undergraduate mechanics.
I am engaged  in a number of  projects whereby various manifestations  of  Information Technology are used in the pedagogy.
More generally,  I am actively engaged in efforts to introduce new ideas into undergraduate teaching.

XXThe  "The Amis Project", refers to a project,  I led, to implement basic materials on the Web suitable for a course in mechanics for first year undergraduate students. Most of the material is in English. Please feel free to explore, and any comments are welcome.

Some other ongoing pedagogical projects I am involved in.

Together with  Göran Karlsson,   I have developed a distance course in basic university mechanics.Details (in Swedish) may be found at 5C4104.

At present I am working on an international project together with other members of my department to develop tutoring methods via Internet for mechanics.

My research interests mainly have  been  in the field of computer algebra applications in theoretical physics.
I was most active in this area between 1970 and 1985.  I started and then led  a research group in this field during most of this period
Between 1983 and 1988 I was  involved in several projects to introduce computer algebra  to the theory divisions of large industrial companies.
I then spent several   years working in the field of chaos theory.
Since 1990 I have been active in developing and running courses which employ other pedagogic methods than the departments traditional courses.

The following text in Swedish is information concerning courses I give.
